Flashy Moves & Advanced Leading and Following

Sarah and I would like to offer a group class (or two classes, depending on the amount of interest and the skill levels of those interested) in advanced leading / following principles, using those principles to invent exciting moves.

However, we do not have a good way to gauge how many people may be interested in such a class. That is what this post is for.

We envision a ten-week class, meeting for 75 minutes each week and costing $125/person, in which the focus will be primarily on partnering, musical interpretation, in-class performances (for the other class participants), movement technique, and unlocking your individual and combined creativity.

We will work in the context of American Style Rhythm (cha cha / rumba / swing / bolero / mambo), though not exclusively. The partnering and interpretation principles are appropriate for every style of partner dancing (Smooth / Standard / Rhythm / Latin).

Past partner dance experience is definitely a good idea. If there is overwhelming demand for an introductory-level class, then only minimal dance experience will be expected. If we offer an advanced-level class, then considerable dance experience will be required.

You should plan to enroll with a partner (a friend / neighbor / roommate / romantic partner / dance partner) as the class material will be heavily geared toward creating interesting dancing with a partner. Leads, if you have no partner, you are encouraged to enroll anyway. Many ballroom dance classes attract more follows than leads. Leads, your enrollment means that individual follows may enroll and have a partner available in class.

We have no start date picked, and no meeting time or place. Provided there is enough interest in this class, we will select a place and time.

Post a comment, below, to indicate that you would potentially be interested in such a class (provided the yet-to-be-determined day and time work for you).

Please indicate whether an intro-level, advanced-beginner-level, or advanced-level class is what you desire.

In addition, please share suggestions for the kind of material you would like to cover, including light and shade, acceleration, using changes in elevation, delayed turns, dynamic power, shared weight, lifts, sensitivity, etc.

I would be interested in the class. I will have to check with my previous lead partner, though, to see if he would be free to take the class as well. Also depends on where/when the classes will be. (Monday nights are out for me, sorry!)

I would be very interested in a class like this, except I have no partner. It would also depend on when he class is meeting and when in the year you are starting it.

I would absolutely be interested. I would need to find a partner for an advanced class, but I would be willing to lead in a beginning class (if that’s okay with you guys!) if necessary! I don’t know that I could lead at an intermediate level, but I could give it a try. . . Thursdays and Sundays would be difficult for me to manage, but I could make the other five days of the week work.

I would also be interested in an intermediate\Advanced class, but I don’t have a partner.

Jo

definitely….finding a partner a challenge but absolutely interested.

I might be interested. I have not decided for sure yet. It too depends on the night of the week. Would it be possible to do this class twice a week?

Interested. Might have a partner, might not. Will not be able to make M-TH nights consistently due to work travel.

would be very interested but have no partner.

I would be interested, however, I only have an introductory class experience and follow without partner, I know this is not ideal, but I am interested and available friday evenings.

We would be interested though our experience level is limited. During the week after 4p & weekends after 3p are better for our schedules.

I am interested, but I need to know what night of the week this is before I can commit. I don’t have a partner, so I could pair up with one of the partnerless follows.

I am also interested and am fairly flexible in terms of which day, but prefer week-nights. I would prefer an intermediate or advanced level class. I have no partner, so I am available for unpaired follows.

I would be interested in an intermediate level class depending on the location (downtown, near East, or near West would be great) and if need be I could probably find a partner. Weeknights would be best.

I HAVE A PARTNER! Dan H. will be joining for classes with me. Depending on what evening/day the classes are, we would be open to Beginner or Advanced classes. However, please note that it has been quite a while since we last danced, so we may need to start at the Beginner level if the Advanced class is moving more quickly. Looking forward to dancing through your instruction again!

I am interested in the class but would rate myself at the intermediate level. I do not have a partner but am available as a lead.
