$15 – one workshop
$25 – two workshops (when you pay in advance)
$35 – three workshops (when you pay in advance)

Pre-registration is required. Contact the Instructor to reserve space in this class, regardless of whether you have already been taking classes or Private Lessons with these instructors.

You do not need to enroll with a partner. Partner changes occur frequently in class.

Please fill out all pertinent Registration Material, and bring it with you on the first day of class.

We will be offering three workshops over UW’s Spring Break:

Tuesday (4:30 – 6:00): American Rhythm Technique
Thursday (6:00 – 7:30): Partnering and Connection (Rumba)
Thursday (7:30 – 9:00): Dips and Tricks

These workshops are for you if…
You have completed one of Darrell’s or Sarah’s recent classes, including but not limited to UW Summer 2009, UW Fall 2009, Salsa/Latin 102, New Dancer American Rhythm, Fox Trot 101, or Salsa 101.
Or if you are presently taking Darrell’s Salsa/Latin 103 or UW Winter/Spring 2010; or Sarah’s Rumba 101.

These workshops are also open to friends of the studio who have previously taken classes with either Darrell or Sarah. Students should be familiar with cuddles, hammerlocks, under-arm turns, and the movement-of and reaction-to space – these are skills that both Darrell and Sarah teach in their beginner/new-dancer classes. Come to any or all workshops, and bring your friends!

American Rhythm Technique

Taught by: Darrell Dieringer and Sarah Calhoun

Time: Tuesday, 30 March 2010 (4:30 – 6:00)

Held at: State Street Center (122 State St), 3rd Floor Studio

Description:
We will work to develop the full-body Cuban motion that is part of every American-style Rhythm dance (cha cha / rumba / swing / bolero / mambo). Developing good technique will help set your dancing apart, and allow you to effortlessly stand out on the floor! Topics covered may include: hip and core motion, foot placement and turnout, arm styling, upper-body motion, and posture.

Partnering and Connection (Rumba)

Taught by: Sarah Calhoun

Time: Thursday, 1 April 2010 (6:00 – 7:30)

Held at: Kanopy Dance

Description: A strong connection can take your dancing from good to fantastic! We will be working specifically on Rumba, though these same principles are portable to all other dances. Discovering how you hold your own body and how it interacts with a partner will change the way you dance forever!

The class will emphasize creating a solid constant connection between the lead and follow and how to use that connection throughout the entire dance and in every move that we create! In addition to Rumba technique, we will be learning how two bodies create motion together.

Dips and Tricks

Taught by: Sarah Calhoun

Time: Thursday, 1 April 2010 (7:30 – 9:00)

Held at: Kanopy Dance

Description:
Learn some socially leadable and FUN and FLASHY dips and tricks to use at your next dance gathering! Along with partnering, we will work on musical interpretation, in-class performances (for the other class participants – optional, but encouraged), developing greater strength/balance/flexibility, movement technique, and unlocking your individual and combined creativity.

Please, no Street Shoes on the dance floor. Dance shoes, dance sneakers, or stocking feet are all fine.

Kanopy dance studio is located in Downtown Madison on State Street. Nearby parking is available in the Overture Center Parking Ramp and the Capitol Parking Ramp.

The studio is located on the second floor above the Gap clothing store. The door to enter the studio is to the left of the Gap.

Who is this for?

The Wedding Special is designed for couples, meaning the engaged couple, their parents, grandparents, and members of the wedding party, regardless of past dance experience. Same sex couples are welcome.

How should your prepare…

Give yourself at least two months prior to your reception. The more time you give yourself, the better your first dance will be.

Will six lessons be enough?

Every couple learns differently, though six lessons is the magic number for many couples. Additional lesson packages are always available.

Specials are valid only for the lessons (private lessons or group classes) described, only with the instructor(s) described, and only for the time period described. You must mention the special to receive special prices.

Private lesson specials may be avilable only to couples or only to individuals. Unless otherwise specified, specials are for new clients only. Specials may not be combined with other special offers.

Each instructor at the Art of Dance is independent and sets his or her own prices. See Prices for all available private lesson packages. See Group Classes for all avaialable classes. New Dancer Special

These 55-minute Private Lessons provide focused, individualized dance instruction for you and a partner. Your instructor will help you unlock your natural potential so you can dance to your full ability!

Please, no Street Shoes on the dance floor. Dance shoes, dance sneakers, or stocking feet are all fine.

If you are new to dancing, private lessons are great for rapidly gaining confidence on the dance floor. If you have been dancing only socially, have been taking group classes exclusively, or dance with only one person, you may have accumulated some habits that make your dancing more difficult and less enjoyable. Your instructor will help make your dancing clean and comfortable.

Dancing should be comfortable and enjoyable for both the lead and the follow in the couple. With the guidance of your instructor, learn to increase your expressiveness, your comfort, and your ability to lead or follow well. Improvements come rapidly with the guidance of your instructor.

If you have been dancing a long time, you have taken lessons for years, or if you enjoy Competitions, Private Lessons help you to fine tune and expand your skills, to develop unique choreography, and to inspire you to new levels of achievement.

This Private Lesson Special is for one couple (vs individuals or groups).
